Rooms I've Created

The power of words

I love words. I love them in books, magazines, spoken, and displayed in my home. Words have a lot of power. They can capture your imagination, draw you in, make you feel happy, sad, or inspired.  They can very easily invoke memories, or set a tone in your room.  Using words or quotes in home decor has  been a very trendy thing, and still is. There are so many fun ways to display quotes or sentences that mean something to you or your family.  Whether it is on boards, metal, fabric, or right on walls with vinyl. It can instantly add a bit of creativity and fun to any room you are doing.

I thought I would share some ways I have used words in my home.  There are just a few places I do this. My philosophy is less is more, but I think it gives my spaces some personalization.

I added a little quote “together, a great place to be,” on the door between the couch and chair. I also love to add words to pictures.  I have this sweet picture of my kids hanging on the wall, and on it says everything I feel when I look at it. “Time is a companion that goes with us. It reminds us to cherish each moment, because it will never come again.”

Another spot I put words was in our music room.  I love music so much, and so do my kids. I was watching the Piano Guys Secrets video on day, and at the beginning of the song they have this quote displayed. It totally spoke to me, and I knew I had to have it in my home.

The last place I added some words was on my kitchen wall.  I put a recipe on the wall in hopes to have the area feel like a bakery. This recipe is the brownie recipe my Grandma Kitty gave to me. Every time I look at that wall when I am cooking dinner, I think of her visiting me, sitting at my kitchen table asking me how many eggs were in a recipe I was baking. It is a piece of her in my kitchen. I also have some written recipes from her that I think would be awesome scanned in a computer and made into a canvas.

The possibilities are endless. These are the things I have done in my own home that speaks to me. Sometimes I follow trends, sometimes I don’t. My number one rule is that  when I put a house together it has to feel like a home. Not a store. Put what you love in your home.  All of those things that makes you feel happy and makes your home feel like a home.

I'm Erin, a busy mom of three, chauffeur, cook, housekeeper, and wanna be decorator. I love old movies, good books, and a daily trip to Lowes. We have recently bought a new home...one we are fixing up and changing everything. This blog is to record our renovating journey. This is not the first house we have done. Actually, it is our third. My husband and I love a project. Any project. We both love working on our home, have the same taste, (which is great), and love working and re purposing things on our budget. We can show you how to put together a high end and creative look without breaking the bank. Taking something old and recreating it into something new and exciting for any room is my passion. Hope you enjoy this decorating journey with us!
