Christmas touches – My dining room

I love Christmas time! Decorating my house is one of the highlights of the Christmas season for me. One of my favorite rooms to decorate and to be in is the Dining room. We eat in our dining room every night, and it is so fun to make it a festive room that everyone can enjoy!

For my table this year I went clean and simple. Since we use it every night, I needed the height to be low so we could talk to each other. I bought a grain sack table runner, took my old books I had on my buffet, a cake stand from my hutch, the large white apple from my entry dresser, and a couple of simple Christmas trees. I found these cute car and trailer salt and pepper shakers last year and thought they went perfectly.

This year we brought our antique radio into the dining room so we could put up the Christmas tree in it’s spot in the family room. I totally love it in this room. It adds such a vintage vibe and is fun to listen to while we eat dinner. I just added a couple of vintage carolers and an old trailer to the top to add some Christmas fun to this spot of the room.

I moved my chalkboard to the other side of the room and kept the boxwood wreath hung on it for some more Christmas touches.

For my hutch this year I added my Grandma’s Christmas dishes, a Santa, some books, and candles.

I decided to add some books, ornaments, and cards to add some color and height to the shelves.

I had this Courier and Ives card from my Grandparents that I absolutely love and wanted to display it. I thought it went well with the dishes. I added a Christmas book to the back of the shelf, and some red ornaments in my ramacans.

I made this Santa in sixth grade home ec class. I have placed him on a vintage 1940’s cookbook along with the santa plate next to him. I love all the pops of red against the light gray hutch. Definitely says Christmas to me. I love using things I have collected over the years. I can look at everything and remember all the fun memories I have had over the years.

We always set up one of our villages in the dining room. We can look at it every night and it adds so much fun light and sparkle to the room.

So there it is. My simple and fun vintage dining room this year.

I'm Erin, a busy mom of three, chauffeur, cook, housekeeper, and wanna be decorator. I love old movies, good books, and a daily trip to Lowes. We have recently bought a new home...one we are fixing up and changing everything. This blog is to record our renovating journey. This is not the first house we have done. Actually, it is our third. My husband and I love a project. Any project. We both love working on our home, have the same taste, (which is great), and love working and re purposing things on our budget. We can show you how to put together a high end and creative look without breaking the bank. Taking something old and recreating it into something new and exciting for any room is my passion. Hope you enjoy this decorating journey with us!
