Fall in the dining room

I am one of those people who loves having a dining room in their home. We eat there most nights, and when I was looking for homes, having a dining room was always on the must have list.

This room is in the front of the house. I wanted it to be comfortable and not too formal since we use it for our regular nightly dinners. When we bought the house the room was very basic. It was two toned brown with a chair rail in the middle of the room. We added wainscoting 3/4 of the way up the wall and painted the room green. I added some fun napkins in my windows to make a valence to add some fun and different color in the room.

I found an antique hutch and painted it a light gray where I display blue Danube dishes that were my Grandma’s. To bring more of the blue into the room, I found this rug that brought in the greens from the wall and the blues from the dishes. I bought this table off of craigslist. It is an older antique table with some scratches and character, but I love the lines and detail on it. I paired it with some new more modern chairs to give it a more collected look. I added some artwork on the walls with the same colors that were in the rug to add some interest and color to the walls.

For fall this year, I found this great table runner at good will. It is quilted and very vintage. I added some old books, pumpkins, and sprigs. I made the wreath with yarn a few years back. I wanted it to look like a fall sweater. I think it looks great hanging on the hutch. I love the way the orange pops in the room. Perfect for fall. Just adding some older things, newer things, and seasonal decorations makes a room feel very comfortable and lived in.

I'm Erin, a busy mom of three, chauffeur, cook, housekeeper, and wanna be decorator. I love old movies, good books, and a daily trip to Lowes. We have recently bought a new home...one we are fixing up and changing everything. This blog is to record our renovating journey. This is not the first house we have done. Actually, it is our third. My husband and I love a project. Any project. We both love working on our home, have the same taste, (which is great), and love working and re purposing things on our budget. We can show you how to put together a high end and creative look without breaking the bank. Taking something old and recreating it into something new and exciting for any room is my passion. Hope you enjoy this decorating journey with us!
