Pumpkins and a fall porch
On instagram I shared a picture of my front porch and mentioned that the pumpkins that I used to decorate it were grown in my yard. So I thought I’d share where in my yard I grow them.

I have a spot in my yard that works great for the amount and variety of pumpkins I grow. I like to grow mini pumpkins so I can have them to decorate the house when fall comes. There is an open space right in front of my climbing vines that I have planted the pumpkins in now for a few years. It might seem like a small space, but the pumpkins grow so perfectly and just trail along the curbing. I just plant the seeds directly into the ground, and they grow like crazy! I love to incorporate my garden veggies into my flower gardens. It adds some nice variety and greenery.

This year I got a good crop of mini white and orange pumpkins along with a few gourds that are so fun to decorate with. I placed the small pumpkins around the house and put the gourds outside on the porch.

I added them to my already decorated front porch and they add so much fun and fall to the porch, and it is extra fun to decorate with them because I grew them myself! Of course I added some mums for some more fall flavor. I had an old frame that was used for my daughter’s bulletin board a while back. Since we were no longer using it, I sprayed the frame with gold paint and added a yard of some fall fabric I found at JoAnn. I layered it with an old window I had in my basement, a burlap pumpkin and a fun fall sign.

I think it goes well with the fall wreath I made to go on my door. I love to layer textures and put something unexpected out in my spaces. I love using fabric because it doesn’t matter if it gets wet, and old windows always add a lot of character. When I decorate my porch, I always think about it as an extension of my house, like another room that needs to feel like a part of the home.

The porch is ever changing, and I know after we get our first hard frost I’ll have to put away the plants, but that is what I love about seasons. It is a great way to have fun and change up a space.
