Fall in the family room

Today I’m going to share the fall touches I added to my family room. This is the space in the back of our house right off of our kitchen. It is where we hang out, and enjoy everyday. I have a lot of great vintage items in this room, and I love displaying them and enjoying them while I cook.

The colors I used in this room are gray, navy, green and orange. These colors are great because they seem to work with every season, especially fall. I just added some of my pumpkins around, fall sprigs, and some green fall pillows my daughter made for me. I love mixing pattern and color. It makes the room seem fun and whimsical to me.

Next to my orange chair, I have a table that my mom gave us right after we were married, twenty four years ago. It has been a lot of different colors, but right now I love the light green color I painted it. I added a couple of pumpkins to the already existing decor. I love the old books and soda bottle. Also, I love keeping some greenery in my fall decorating.

I have this gray cabinet I found years ago at Down East. I fill it with all my cookbooks. I love to cook and have quite a collection of cookbooks. This stores them perfectly, right next to my kitchen. On the top I display my vintage finds that I love so much. An old coffee grinder, and crewel picture done in the 70’s, and the lantern my husband and I found and repurposed into a lamp. I made the pumpkin sign on the floor last year, and painted te background to look like and old chalkboard.

This spot is one of my favorites in my home. I love all the pop of colors and textures. It’s one of those spots that just makes me smile.

I had this blue chair down in my craft room that I was no longer using. I put it in the corner of the room for extra seating when I have guests. I found the old door years ago, and I have always loved it. I think it adds so much architectural interest in the room. It is also a fun spot to hang wreaths. I made the quilt in the old milk crate next to the chair last year, and it just makes the space feel cozy.

So that is my family room. Very simple compared to past years, but just right for me this year. I may add some more things as the season progresses, but isn’t that the fun of decorating? Hopefully this room is going to get a makeover this winter. Can’t wait to share!

I'm Erin, a busy mom of three, chauffeur, cook, housekeeper, and wanna be decorator. I love old movies, good books, and a daily trip to Lowes. We have recently bought a new home...one we are fixing up and changing everything. This blog is to record our renovating journey. This is not the first house we have done. Actually, it is our third. My husband and I love a project. Any project. We both love working on our home, have the same taste, (which is great), and love working and re purposing things on our budget. We can show you how to put together a high end and creative look without breaking the bank. Taking something old and recreating it into something new and exciting for any room is my passion. Hope you enjoy this decorating journey with us!
